About the Role The In-House Legal Counsel serves as a strategic legal partner to the business, supporting retail stores, e-commerce operations, supply chain, marketing, HR, and corporate leadership across India. In luxury retail, the role heavily emphasizes brand protection, regulatory compliance, high-value contracts, and reputation management.

Key Responsibilities

• Commercial & Retail Contracts

Drafting and negotiating

o Lease agreements (mall & high-street locations)

o Brand agreements o Vendor & supply agreements o Influencer & brand ambassador contracts

E-commerce platform agreements (e.g., marketplaces)

Service-level agreements (logistics, warehousing, marketing agencies)

• Brand & Intellectual Property Protection Trademark registration & enforcement (India & international if applicable)

Anti-counterfeiting actions

IP licensing & brand usage policies

Monitoring unauthorized sellers

• Regulatory & Compliance (India-Specific) Retail & shop compliance across states

Data privacy & digital compliance

• Companies Act FDI compliance (if foreign-owned luxury brand)

Legal Metrology requirements (MRP labelling, packaging)

• Real Estate & Expansion Title due diligence for store locations

Negotiation of commercial lease deeds

Dispute handling with landlords

Zoning and municipal compliance

• Employment & HR Advisory

Senior executive employment contracts

POSH compliance

Disciplinary proceedings

Advisory under state Shops & Establishments Acts

• Litigation & Dispute Management

Managing external counsel

Handling consumer disputes

Commercial disputes & arbitration

IP enforcement litigation

Skills Critical in Luxury Retail

Solid negotiation skills (mall developers & landlords)

High attention to brand integrity & reputation

Understanding of premium customer experience standards

Ability to work closely with marketing & merchandising teams

Crisis management (social media, influencer disputes, consumer backlash)

Preferred Qualifications (India Context)

LLB from a recognized Indian university

Enrolled with Bar Council of India

5 12 years PQE (law firm + in-house preferred)

Experience in retail, FMCG, fashion, or luxury brand
