Area Legal Manager – Credit Card – Hardship Assistance Unit at Kotak Mahindra Bank manages the legal and regulatory aspects of credit card customer hardship, debt restructuring, and dispute resolution.

Key Responsibilities

• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all credit card hardship, settlement, and customer assistance operations strictly follow Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines and internal bank policies.
• Legal Documentation & Review: Handle legal documentation, notices, agreements, and correspondence related to credit card hardship cases and account restructuring.
• Risk & Dispute Mitigation: Provide legal guidance to the Hardship Assistance Unit to identify, assess, and mitigate operational and legal risks.
• Cross-Functional Coordination: Work closely with the collections, credit, risk, and operations teams to ensure lawful practices during debt resolution.
• External Counsel Management: Coordinate with external advocates or legal entities whenever required for contested matters or escalations.

Typical Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree or equivalent legal qualification.
• Experience: Varies by level (typically ranging from mid-level to senior roles requiring several years of experience in banking laws, retail assets, or credit/risk compliance).
• Core Skills: Strong knowledge of Indian banking/credit card regulations, contract law, dispute resolution, analytical thinking, and stakeholder management.
