Job Description – Earthwork Engineer

Project: Railway Infrastructure Project

Location: Shivamogga, Karnataka

Position: Earthwork Engineer

Job Responsibilities

• Execute and supervise railway earthwork activities as per approved drawings, specifications, and project schedules.
• Monitor earthwork operations, including excavation, embankment filling, cutting, backfilling, and soil compaction.
• Supervise subgrade preparation, formation development, and track-bed earthwork activities.
• Ensure proper soil testing, field density tests (FDT), and compaction quality as per project specifications.
• Coordinate with surveyors for levels, alignment, setting out, and earthwork quantity measurements.
• Monitor heavy equipment such as excavators, graders, dumpers, rollers, and dozers.
• Prepare daily progress reports (DPRs), manpower reports, equipment utilization reports, and quantity statements.
• Coordinate with the planning, QA/QC, survey, and safety teams to ensure smooth execution.
• Maintain inspection records, material test reports, and quality documentation.
• Ensure compliance with railway standards, approved method statements, safety procedures, and environmental requirements.
• Monitor subcontractor performance and ensure work completion within the planned schedule.
• Assist with measurements, quantity estimation, reconciliation, and billing documentation.

Required Qualifications

• Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering preferred.
• 5–12 years of relevant experience in railway earthwork or large-scale infrastructure projects.
• Knowledge of excavation, embankment, soil compaction, subgrade preparation, and earthwork quantity calculations.
• Experience in reading engineering drawings, surveying coordination, and quality control.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Excel preferred.
• Strong site supervision, reporting, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
