Role Overview

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer with 6 8 years of experience in C, Pro*C, Unix/Linux, Python, and PVCS source control to support a large-scale AIX-to-Linux migration program.

The candidate will be responsible for migrating legacy C and Pro*C applications from AIX to Red Hat/Linux, resolving platform portability issues, developing Python-based migration/build automation, and implementing CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions. The role also requires experience with Oracle database integration, automated testing, binary/application parity validation, deployment automation, and AI-assisted developer productivity.

Key Responsibilities AIX-to-Linux Migration

• Migrate C and Pro*C source code from AIX to Linux-compatible builds.
• Analyze and resolve portability issues involving:
• System headers
• Data types
• Compiler behavior
• POSIX/Unix APIs
• Library dependencies
• Linker dependencies
• Pro*C precompiler output
• Build and troubleshoot C/Pro*C applications on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
• Identify and resolve AIX/Linux behavioral and compilation differences.
• Analyze compiler warnings, build failures, runtime issues, and dependency conflicts.
• Ensure migrated applications maintain functional and business parity with the existing AIX implementation.

Python Build & Migration Automation

• Develop and maintain Python-based build and migration utilities.
• Create automation for:
• PVCS source extraction
• Source drift detection
• Makefile generation
• YAML manifest generation
• Deployment manifest creation
• Artifact management
• SHA-2/checksum-based selective deployment
• Automate repetitive migration, build, test, packaging, and deployment activities.
• Develop utilities to compare source/build artifacts across AIX and Linux environments.

CI/CD & DevOps

• Design, implement, and maintain GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines.
• Build automated workflows for:
• Source checkout/extraction
• Compilation
• Unit testing
• Packaging
• Artifact publication
• Deployment
• Validation
• Manage CI/CD workflows across SourceBuildRepo and DeployStateRepo.
• Publish build artifacts to Nexus Repository or GitHub Packages.
• Implement automated build validation and deployment controls.
• Integrate quality checks and test execution into CI/CD pipelines.

AI-Assisted Engineering & Developer Productivity

• Build and deploy AI agents, GitHub Copilot skills, and accelerator tools to support the migration program.
• Develop AI-assisted solutions for:
• Portability analysis
• Code migration
• Cross-repository reasoning
• Impact analysis
• Test generation
• Documentation generation
• Developer productivity
• Apply an AI-first engineering approach to accelerate coding, testing, documentation, and migration analysis.
• Evaluate and integrate AI tooling into existing software engineering workflows.

C Unit Testing & Quality Engineering

• Evaluate and select an appropriate C unit testing framework, such as:
• cmocka
• Unity
• CUnit
• Develop initial unit-test suites for shared C library functions.
• Build integration test harnesses for high-risk business processes.
• Integrate unit and integration testing into CI/CD pipelines.
• Improve test coverage and automated regression validation for migrated applications.

Parity & Validation

• Develop structured AIX-vs-Linux parity comparison tooling.
• Validate that Linux-built binaries produce equivalent business outcomes to AIX-built binaries.
• Compare:
• Application output
• Database state
• File outputs
• Transaction results
• End-to-end business processes
• Generate structured evidence and reports for migration sign-off.
• Investigate and resolve discrepancies between AIX and Linux execution.

Oracle / Pro*C Integration

• Work with Oracle Database and Pro*C applications during migration and testing.
• Validate embedded SQL and Pro*C precompiler behavior across platforms.
• Control and validate:
• NLS settings
• Database session state
• Query outputs
• Date/time and numeric formatting
• Transaction behavior
• Perform database-level parity verification between AIX and Linux application executions.

Deployment & Rollback

• Implement controlled deployment procedures for migrated applications.
• Develop backup-before-replace deployment logic.
• Implement rollback procedures for failed deployments.
• Create deployment runbooks and operational procedures.
• Support controlled AIX/Linux delivery and production migration activities.
• Ensure deployments are traceable, repeatable, and recoverable.
