• Harden services against the failure modes seen in production, not in theory.
• Model data structures that stay workable as the product grows past its first design.
• Review pull requests with an eye on correctness, readability and blast radius.
• Set up observability for new services before they take their first request.
• Design and ship backend services that stay responsive under sustained load.
• Refactor the parts of the codebase that generate the most recurring bugs.
• Automate the manual steps that slow down every release.
