Financial Controller - FinTech & Payments - CA

Job Description

We are seeking a seasoned Financial Controller with a robust background in the payment gateway or fintech sector to lead our finance operations. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in managing high-volume transaction reconciliations, regulatory compliance (RBI/FEMA), and risk mitigation within a fast-paced digital payments environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Financial Management & Reporting: Oversee all accounting functions, including the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (Balance Sheet, P&L, Cash Flow) while ensuring adherence to IFRS and Indian Accounting Standards.
• Settlement & Reconciliation: Manage teams responsible for daily escrow settlements and complex merchant reconciliations to ensure 100% accuracy in fund flows.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to RBI Master Directions, KYC norms, and statutory requirements. Manage GST, corporate tax, and FEMA (ODI) compliances for both domestic and international entities.
• Audit Leadership: Act as the primary liaison for Statutory, Internal, and RBI Escrow audits, maintaining relationships with Big 4 firms to ensure unqualified audit reports.
• Risk & Internal Controls: Develop and implement internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) to reduce chargeback risks, merchant fraud during onboarding, and LEA notices.
• Strategic Collaboration: Partner with the CEO, CFO, and CTO to prepare business plans for fundraising activities and manage working capital for merchant settlements.
• Operational Efficiency: Lead the implementation of ERP systems and develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to streamline procurement and reimbursement processes.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Professional Certification: Must be a Chartered Accountant (CA); additional certification like CPA is highly preferred.
• Industry Experience: Minimum of 10+ years of experience in finance, with a mandatory background in Payment Gateways, FinTech, or Payment Aggregators.
• Technical Proficiency: Hands-on experience with financial tools like ZOHO, ERP systems, and managing Merchant Discount Rates (MDR) with banks and payment gateways.
• Taxation Expertise: Strong knowledge of Transfer Pricing, TDS returns, and international tax treaties.
• Leadership: Proven track record of managing and mentoring teams of 10+ employees in a high-pressure environment.

Preferred Skills

• Experience in leading financial due diligence for Series B or higher fundraising rounds.
• Ability to negotiate MDR based on projected transaction volumes.
• Background in managing finance for GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) region businesses alongside Indian operations.
