Contract Position : Devops Engineer

The Role

The role is responsible for providing DevOps capability across Front Office IT platforms, with a focus on reliable application delivery, operational stability, automation, observability, and production readiness.

The role will partner with application, infrastructure, and support teams to strengthen delivery practices, improve resilience, and embed modern engineering and deployment standards across the environment.

Duties And Responsibilities

Own, manage, and maintain Front Office IT (FO IT) container hosting environments for Credit, Swaps, Structured Products and FX microservices, as well as the data lake platform.

Manage core application platforms that provide shared capabilities, including continuous deployment, observability, and Kafka streaming.

Collaborate with infrastructure teams to support provisioning and management of Azure and OpenShift resources required by FO IT development teams.

Support the migration of on-premises build, deployment, and application workloads to GitOps-based deployment patterns across Azure and on-premises environments.

Establish, deploy, and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate build, test, and deployment processes in line with the firm’s audit and compliance policies; investigate and resolve issues across application infrastructure and deployment pipelines.

Embed DevSecOps practices into delivery pipelines, including security checks, secrets management, access controls, and compliance-aligned deployment processes.

Act as gatekeeper for production deployments, participate in release and infrastructure maintenance cycles, and support production releases and maintenance activities.

Manage and maintain the observability stack across on-premises and cloud environments, including application health dashboards, alerting, and notification delivery.

Respond to incidents, perform root cause analysis, troubleshoot application issues, and implement preventative actions to reduce recurrence.

Identify automation opportunities and build automated processes to improve efficiency and consistency.

Implement backup and disaster recovery strategies, participate in annual DR tests, and support DR test execution.

Collaborate with development, testing, and operations teams to analyse requirements, evaluate technologies through research and proof-of-concept activities, and implement fit-for-purpose solutions.

Create and maintain documentation, runbooks, and operational standards for infrastructure, common issues, fixes, and deployment/release processes; share knowledge across DevOps, support, and wider teams to reduce key-person dependency.

Adapt to fast-moving FO IT infrastructure and application requirements, delivering innovative solutions with a reduced time-to-market where possible.

Essential Skills And Experience

Strong and proven experience in a DevOps role, preferably within Investment Banking or a similar regulated environment.

Strong knowledge of DevOps practices, tools, and technologies.

Experience working with, managing, and supporting enterprise-scale production microservice environments.Strong knowledge of containerisation and orchestration of microservices.

Experience with Docker/Podman, Helm, ArgoCD, GitOps practices, and Terraform.

Experience with OpenShift, Azure Kubernetes Service, Azure Storage, and related Azure cloud technologies.

Experience with observability and logging tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Tempo, and Grafana Alloy.

Experience with CI/CD tooling including Bamboo, Bitbucket, and Git.

Experience with automation scripting using Bash, PowerShell, and Python.

Able to demonstrate a high level of professionalism, organisation, self-motivation, and a desire for continuous improvement.

Ability to plan, prioritise, and manage a demanding workload.

Desirable Skills And Experience

Familiarity with Azure landing zones and Azure networking concepts, including Private Link.

Experience supporting Azure Databricks data lake platform.

Working knowledge of Java and Node.js.

Understanding of Kafka streaming and MongoDB.

Awareness of DevSecOps practices, including security checks, secrets management, and compliance-aware delivery.
