Cloud Engineer

Title: AWS Cloud Engineer

Duration: 6+ month contract to hire

Salary once perm: 110-120k

Location: hybrid in either of the following locations: White Plains, NY, Charleston, SC, or Scottsdale, AZ

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain serverless applications and APIs on AWS using Lambda, SAM, CloudFormation, and API Gateway
• Develop and deploy infrastructure using AWS SAM and CloudFormation as the team's core API development pattern, in coordination with GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines
• Collaborate with the team's existing Terraform stacks and in-house Terraform-certified engineer on infrastructure provisioning as needed
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues spanning both application-level code and underlying AWS infrastructure, driving root cause analysis and sustainable fixes
• Apply AI coding and productivity tools (GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, etc.) to accelerate development, debugging, and infrastructure automation
• Partner with cross-functional engineering and business teams to support the organization's growing API and integrations footprint

Requirements

• Strong, hands-on experience with AWS as a primary cloud platform
• Hands-on experience with AWS Lambda
• Solid understanding of APIs, REST, and middleware patterns
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code; familiarity with Terraform
• Experience with AWS SAM and CloudFormation, used as the team's core pattern for building and deploying APIs, paired with GitHub Actions for CI/CD
• Strong troubleshooting skills across both the application layer and AWS infrastructure — the ability to methodically diagnose and resolve issues under production pressure is essential
• Genuine, practical skill using AI coding and productivity tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT), including strong prompt engineering ability — this is a significant part of how the team works day to day

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with containerization and Amazon ECS (a plus, not required)
