Role Overview

CLS needs an experienced Senior Full-Stack Developer & DevOps Engineer to take technical ownership of an existing production platform — not a frontend-only, backend-only, or feature-development role. You will independently maintain, troubleshoot, and deploy the full stack: React frontend, Django backend, databases, real-time chat, cloud infrastructure, Docker, CI/CD, DNS/CDN, and third-party integrations — inheriting a documented production system from a prior senior developer.

• DevOps/Cloud: GitHub Actions CI/CD, Linode VPS, Cloudflare, AWS S3
• Third-Party: Mailjet, Stripe, OpenAI APIs, Cloudinary, Salesforce

Key Responsibilities

• Full-Stack Development — maintain and extend the React/Django codebase as one integrated system; build REST APIs; manage auth and permissions; diagnose issues across all layers.
• Real-Time Chat — own the Django Channels/WebSocket/Redis chat system: visitor-to-volunteer chat, staff messaging, group chat, assignment/transfer, and moderation.
• DevOps & Production — operate the Linux/Docker/nginx/PostgreSQL/Redis production environment; diagnose incidents independently.
• Deployment & CI/CD — maintain GitHub Actions workflows, manage migrations safely, and keep uptime during releases.
• Database & Background Services — maintain PostgreSQL, PgBouncer, Redis, and Celery workers/scheduled jobs; verify backups.
• Security & Access — manage SSH keys, credentials, SSL, DNS/Cloudflare, CORS/CSRF/JWT and rate limiting.
• Third-Party Integrations — maintain Mailjet, Stripe, OpenAI, S3, Cloudinary, Turnstile, and Salesforce connections.
• Quality — maintain documentation and tests, refactor legacy code, and follow Git/PR practices so CLS never depends on undocumented knowledge held by one person.

Required Experience

At least 5 years of professional full-stack experience with substantial production responsibility, including strong hands-on skill in React, Python/Django, DRF, PostgreSQL, REST APIs, WebSockets, Docker, Linux server administration, and CI/CD — with proven ability to troubleshoot across frontend, backend, database, WebSocket, Docker, and infrastructure layers.

DevOps Experience Is Required

This role cannot be filled by a developer who needs a separate DevOps engineer. You must be comfortable owning production deployments, server configuration, Docker, DNS/CDN, SSL, databases, Redis, CI/CD, and incident response.

What We're Looking For

Someone who, given “Chat has stopped working, but the rest of the site is fine,” can independently trace the issue across the React client, WebSockets, Django Channels, Redis, Docker, nginx, and logs to root cause — someone who owns the complete technical environment, not just one layer.

Existing Platform & Long-Term Role

You'll receive a full technical handover (architecture, repos, auth, database, deployments, secrets, known technical debt, and work in progress) and will be expected to demonstrate understanding before assuming primary responsibility. This is a long-term role: beyond maintenance, you'll help CLS improve architecture, reliability, testing, and scalability as it grows.
