As a Microsoft Azure Cloud Engineer, you will be the primary point of engineering contact for the customers’ Azure support experience. You will assess the IT infrastructure to help plan and deploy ongoing cloud migrations. You will be required to collaborate with field teams and Azure engineering teams at various levels. You will also escalate problems on behalf of the customers and drive prioritization of platform/support improvement needs for them. 

• Designing, developing, and implementing highly available, multi-region solutions within Microsoft Azure  
• Managing and administering the Microsoft Azure cloud environment, including configuration, performance monitoring, provisioning, policy governance and security 
• Analyzing the existing operational standards, processes, and/or governance to identify and implement improvements 
• Migrating the existing infrastructure services to cloud-based solutions 
• Managing security and access controls of cloud-based solutions 
• Developing IaC to ensure automated and consistent platform deployments 
• Developing and implementing policy-driven data protection best practices  
• Supporting cloud adoption of applications while they are being transformed/ modernized 
• Ensuring the infrastructure components meet proper performance and capacity standards 

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or equivalent 
• 2+ years of experience in designing, deployment, configuration and optimization using Microsoft Azure 
• Demonstrated IT experience supporting and troubleshooting enterprise level, mission-critical applications  
• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements 

• A deep understanding of cloud computing technologies  
• Hands-on experience in domains such as Azure Core IaaS, Data Platform and Bigdata Azure PaaS Services, Identity and Authentication, and Containers and container orchestration platforms 
• Experience with Azure DevOps and Terraform Cloud  
• Ability to work in a wide range of IT skills, including networking, systems administration, and data protection 
• Experience with ServiceNow and Jira  
• Experience designing and operating medium to largescale enterprise infrastructure, databases and application systems 
• Experience working within an Agile framework 
• Proficiency with GIT to perform source code management  
• Experience scripting with PowerShell, Perl, and Python

A Microsoft Azure Cloud Engineer works with teams to automate the infrastructure for applications. Azure Cloud engineers also investigate system failures and complex outages and work towards improving infrastructure and systems availability. 

Becoming an Azure specialist does not require extensive coding skills. However, a basic understanding of scripting and automation can be beneficial. Also, the level of coding expertise depends on the roles and responsibilities entrusted to you. For instance, roles such as Azure Administrator, Azure Solutions Architect, or Azure DevOps Engineer may require coding skills. Also, if you are in a role related to data and analytics on Azure, knowledge of SQL, data manipulation languages, or languages like Python for data processing may be relevant. Therefore, learning how to code can be beneficial to your career as an Azure professional.
