Job Description & Responsibilities

Overview

The Data Services team has recently begun its journey to the cloud and the successful applicant will be responsible for helping us achieve that goal. We manage many products within the organisation, and you will help develop our cloud solutions for them using best practices and support day‑to‑day management of the products we support. The company predominantly uses AWS, but we also deploy on Microsoft Azure. The successful applicant will be expected to work closely in collaboration with all FIL teams, especially Cloud Security & Cyber Security and Delivery teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deploy products in AWS and constantly learn new skills and products as they come along.
  • Work both within and outside the team on systems architecture, design decisions, security, coding, troubleshooting and other technical issues related to moving existing or creating new data systems into AWS using core services.
  • Deliver secure, automated, self‑serviced, innovative and cost‑efficient cloud data services reliably and repeatedly into AWS.
  • Work with third‑party products such as Apache NiFi and Kafka.
  • Align these solutions with our Snowflake Data Lake.
  • Enable customers to understand and use our services in the most effective way to realise business benefit as quickly as possible.
  • Coach and support other team members through pairing, encouraging an open collaborative working culture within and outside the team.
  • Show a sound technical understanding of all cloud‑based technologies from an infrastructure and development perspective to influence others to adopt cloud.

Experience & Qualifications

  • A development and infrastructure engineering background with hands‑on experience of cloud‑based technologies (principally AWS) focusing on delivering scalable and resilient services.
  • Proven practical experience implementing simple and effective solutions in AWS that meet security requirements, and the ability to identify risks with mitigating actions.
  • Good knowledge of creating and managing continuous delivery pipelines enabling continuous integration with test‑driven development ensuring security and audit requirements default to compliance.
  • Strong Python and BOTO programming skills with clear logical and practical use of innovative yet simplified coding capability.
  • Very good knowledge of core AWS services in relation to their use case, integration with hybrid networking models, authentication, authorisation and best practice.
  • Good knowledge of using Terraform.
  • Good practical working knowledge of all network layers and security controls available in AWS/hybrid models.
  • Excellent problem‑solving abilities.
  • Full transparency of work with others to ensure maximum knowledge transfer and collaboration across global teams.
  • Highly motivated team player who forms strong relationships with colleagues and has excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Any knowledge of the products we look after as well as cloud database solutions such as Snowflake will be a bonus.
