Software Engineer (AI) — Part-Time / Contract

We are looking for a part-time Software Engineer with strong AI engineering skills to help build and ship practical AI systems. This role is ideal for someone who can move fast, write clean code, and work across backend, AI pipelines, document processing, and lightweight product interfaces.

Responsibilities

• Build AI-powered workflows using LLMs, agents, RAG, OCR, and document extraction pipelines.
• Develop backend services, APIs, and data processing pipelines in Python.
• Work with PDFs, DOCX, Excel files, images, scanned documents, and structured/unstructured data.
• Integrate AI models, vector databases, embedding pipelines, and evaluation workflows.
• Create clean JSON/Markdown outputs from complex documents for downstream AI use.
• Help build internal dashboards and tools for reviewing AI outputs, confidence scores, errors, and extracted data.
• Improve reliability, accuracy, logging, testing, and evaluation of AI systems.
• Quickly prototype new ideas and turn them into usable engineering workflows.
• Collaborate async and provide regular progress updates.

Required Skills

• Strong Python experience.
• Experience building AI/LLM applications using APIs or local models.
• Familiarity with RAG, embeddings, vector search, prompt engineering, and structured output generation.
• Experience with FastAPI, backend APIs, databases, and Git.
• Ability to work with messy real-world data and debug AI pipeline issues.
• Comfortable reading documentation and independently solving engineering problems.
• Good communication and ability to work part-time with minimal supervision.

Nice to Have

• Experience with OCR, VLMs, Docling, Unstructured, Azure Document Intelligence, or similar tools.
• Experience with LangChain, LlamaIndex, Haystack, CrewAI, or agent frameworks.
• Experience with Azure, Docker, CI/CD, and cloud deployment.
• Frontend experience with React, Next.js, or dashboard UI development.
• Prior work with document AI, insurance tech, compliance tools, data extraction, or evaluation systems.

Time Commitment

Part-time, flexible hours. Expected commitment is around 15–25 hours per week, depending on workload and availability.

Ideal Candidate

• The ideal candidate is a hands-on builder who enjoys working on applied AI systems, can prototype quickly, and also cares about clean, reliable, production-ready code. This role is best suited for someone who is comfortable with ambiguity, fast iteration, and practical problem-solving.
