Job Description & Responsibilities

Position Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer

Team Enterprise ERP Platform

Location Pune, India (on-site client placement in later phases)

Experience 4–7 years

Employment Type Full-time

Reports To Engineering Lead, Aikaara Technologies

About the Project

You will join the core engineering team building a multi-tenant ERP platform for a US-based

manufacturing group. The system manages job lifecycle, purchasing, inventory, warranty, time

tracking, engineering releases, and cross-company reporting. The platform is already in

production for one company and is being rebuilt for multi-tenant enterprise deployment across

group companies, with eventual external licensing planned.

This is not a greenfield experiment. There is a working system with real users, real data, and

real operational constraints. You will be migrating business logic, rebuilding modules with proper

architecture, and shipping production code from day one.

Technology Stack

  • Ruby on Rails 7.2 (API-mode backend)
  • PostgreSQL 16 with Row-Level Security for tenant isolation
  • Keycloak for SSO / OAuth 2.0 / JIT provisioning
  • Sidekiq + Redis for background jobs, scheduled tasks, and notifications
  • Statesman gem for state machine / workflow management
  • Minitest for unit and integration testing
  • Docker Compose for local development
  • GitHub Actions for CI/CD pipelines
  • Linux-based deployment (Ubuntu)

What You Will Do

Core Backend Engineering

  • Build and maintain Rails API endpoints serving a React frontend across 11 functional

modules (Identity, Customers, Jobs, Configurator, Releases, Purchasing, Inventory,

Warranty, Time Tracking, Holds, Reporting)

  • Implement PostgreSQL Row-Level Security policies for multi-tenant data isolation
  • Design and enforce role-based and field-level authorization with server-side enforcement
  • Build state machine workflows using Statesman for job lifecycle, PO lifecycle, release

approvals, hold management, and warranty status tracking

  • Implement audit logging across all modules (immutable, append-only records of every

data mutation)

  • Build demand consolidation logic connecting Releases to Purchase Orders with

traceability

  • Integrate with QuickBooks Online API for time tracking and accounting sync
  • Write comprehensive Minitest suites covering models, controllers, services, and

integration scenarios

DevOps & Infrastructure

  • Own and maintain Docker Compose environments for local development and staging
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) for automated testing, linting,

security scanning, and deployment

  • Configure and manage Keycloak instances for SSO across tenants
  • Set up and maintain PostgreSQL database infrastructure including backup, restore, and

migration strategies

  • Manage Sidekiq/Redis configuration for job queuing, retries, and monitoring
  • Implement deployment automation for staging and production environments
  • Monitor application performance, set up alerting, and handle incident response
  • Manage environment configuration, secrets management, and infrastructure-as-code

Data & Migration

  • Migrate existing business logic from a Java/Spring Boot/Thymeleaf monolith to Rails
  • Design and execute database migration strategies preserving data integrity
  • Build bulk import/export capabilities with reversible transactions
  • Implement third-party file comparison tools (Excel reconciliation for Release validation)

Requirements

Must Have

  • 4+ years of production Ruby on Rails experience (Rails 6+ minimum, Rails 7 preferred)
  • Strong PostgreSQL skills: complex queries, indexing, migrations, and Row-Level

Security or equivalent tenant isolation patterns

  • Hands-on experience with Docker, Docker Compose, and containerized development

workflows

  • CI/CD pipeline experience (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or equivalent)
  • Linux server administration and deployment experience
  • Experience with background job processing (Sidekiq, Resque, or equivalent)
  • Solid understanding of RESTful API design, authentication (OAuth 2.0/JWT), and

authorization patterns

  • Experience writing and maintaining automated test suites
  • Git proficiency: branching strategies, code review workflows, PR-based development

Strong Preference

  • Experience with multi-tenant SaaS architecture (shared-database, schema-per-tenant,

or RLS-based)

  • Keycloak or similar identity provider setup and administration
  • State machine implementations (Statesman, AASM, or equivalent)
  • Third-party API integrations (accounting, ERP, or payment systems)
  • Experience migrating legacy systems to modern stacks
  • Monitoring and observability setup (Prometheus, Grafana, New Relic, or equivalent)

Nice to Have

  • ERP or manufacturing domain exposure
  • React.js familiarity for debugging frontend-backend integration issues
  • Infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible)
  • Performance optimization for large datasets and complex reporting queries

Work Arrangement

Initial work will be based at the Aikaara Technologies office in Pune, collaborating with the core

delivery team. As the project matures, you will transition to a dedicated on-site role at the

client’s US office. International travel willingness is required.
