Role Summary

We are seeking a Senior Platform Engineer (Contractor) to design, build, and operate scalable cloud data platforms on Azure Databricks. This role will be responsible for platform enablement, infrastructure automation, environment management, and operational reliability of enterprise data and AI platforms.

The ideal candidate will drive platform stability, performance, security, and governance, enabling seamless onboarding and productivity for Data Engineering and AI/ML teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Platform Engineering & Enablement
• Design and build cloud-native data platforms using Azure Databricks
• Enable platform capabilities for data ingestion, transformation, and analytics
• Standardize reusable platform frameworks and services
• Support onboarding of new data products and use cases

• Infrastructure & Environment Management
• Provision and manage Dev, Test, and Prod environments in Azure
• Implement infrastructure-as-code (Terraform / ARM templates)
• Manage Databricks workspaces, clusters, and storage integrations (ADLS)
• Ensure environment isolation, scalability, and cost optimization

Enterprise platforms require environment isolation, governance, and standardized provisioning [Azure_Data...m_Handover | PDF]

• CI/CD & Automation
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for platform and data workloads
• Automate deployment, environment promotion, and release management
• Enable DevOps practices for Data Engineering and AI pipelines
• Reduce manual operations through automation and self-service capabilities

• Observability, Monitoring & Reliability
• Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting frameworks
• Ensure platform reliability through:

o Incident management

o Root cause analysis (RCA)

o Performance tuning

• Build dashboards for system health, usage, and cost tracking

• Implement RBAC, access control, and data security policies
• Enforce governance using Unity Catalog / Purview

• Partner with:

o Data Engineering

o AI/ML Engineering

o Architecture and Security teams

• Enable a self-service platform for engineering teams
• Support enterprise programs with stable and scalable platform infrastructure

Required Skills

• Strong experience with:

o Azure Databricks (Mandatory)

o Azure Cloud Services (ADF, ADLS, Synapse, Key Vault)

• Hands-on expertise in:

o Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform preferred)

o CI/CD tools (Azure DevOps, GitHub)

o Cluster management, compute optimization, and cost control

• Experience with:

o Monitoring tools (Azure Monitor, logging frameworks)

o Platform automation and DevOps practices
