Senior dbt Developer (AWS Data Platform)

About the Opportunity

We are looking for experienced Senior dbt Developers to join our growing Data Engineering practice and work on large-scale cloud data platform initiatives. This role is ideal for professionals who have hands-on production experience building and maintaining enterprise-grade dbt projects and are passionate about modern data engineering, analytics engineering, and data transformation.

This is not a reporting or dashboard development role. You will own the transformation layer of a modern cloud data platform, building scalable, reusable, and well-governed data models while collaborating with Data Engineers, Architects, and Analytics teams.

What You'll Do

• Design and develop scalable dbt models following Medallion Architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold).
• Build reusable transformation pipelines using dbt Core or dbt Cloud.
• Develop dimensional models including Star Schema and Data Vault.
• Implement incremental models, snapshots, and advanced materialization strategies.
• Create reusable macros using Jinja to standardize business logic.
• Build comprehensive data quality frameworks using dbt tests and community packages.
• Design and maintain semantic models and governed business metrics.
• Produce high-quality documentation, data dictionaries, and lineage documentation.
• Integrate dbt into CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps.
• Collaborate closely with Data Engineers, Data Architects, BI teams, and Data Scientists to deliver production-ready analytical datasets.
• Participate in code reviews and promote engineering best practices across the data platform.

Required Skills

• 7+ years of Data Engineering or Analytics Engineering experience.
• 5+ years of hands-on production experience with dbt.
• Expert-level SQL and query optimization skills.
• Strong experience with dbt models, tests, snapshots, macros, Jinja templating, packages, documentation, and Semantic Layer.
• Experience working with Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, BigQuery, or similar cloud data warehouses.
• Strong Python programming skills.
• Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows.
• Hands-on experience implementing CI/CD for dbt projects.
• Strong understanding of data modelling concepts including Star Schema, Data Vault 2.0, and Medallion Architecture.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with dbt Cloud.
• Familiarity with MetricFlow and dbt Semantic Layer.
• Experience with AWS services such as S3, Glue, Athena, and Redshift.
• Knowledge of data governance and cataloging platforms.
• Experience working with enterprise-scale cloud data platforms.
• Domain experience in Healthcare, Insurance, Banking, Retail, or other data-intensive industries.
