Job Description & Responsibilities

POSITION OVERVIEW

Tribes Digital is seeking experienced OpenStack Engineers to join our delivery team for a large-scale Red Hat OpenStack 17.1 and Ceph Storage 9 private cloud platform implementation. This is a full-time, project-based engagement (16 months) deploying production-grade IaaS infrastructure for a telecommunications-background client. You will work alongside a lead architect and cross-functional team to design, deploy, test, and hand over a multi-tenant cloud platform capable of supporting VMs, block storage, networking, and billing operations.

This role offers significant technical depth in enterprise OpenStack deployments, Ceph storage integration, high-availability database clustering, and tenant isolation. You will be instrumental in taking a complex architecture from blueprint to production go-live.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

OpenStack Core Services Deployment

· Deploy and configure OpenStack core services: Keystone (identity), Nova (compute), Neutron (networking), Cinder (block storage), Glance (image service), Placement (resource inventory)

· Integrate OpenStack with Ceph RBD backend for persistent block storage volumes

· Configure HA (high-availability) for all control-plane services using HAProxy and Keepalived VIPs

· Deploy and troubleshoot OVN (Open Virtual Network) for advanced networking and tenant isolation

· Manage service endpoints, API configuration, and inter-service communication

· Implement Keystone domain/project hierarchy for multi-tenant access control and RBAC

Infrastructure & Ceph Integration

· Collaborate with lead architect on infrastructure design, topology, and service layout across 26 bare-metal servers

· Coordinate RHEL 9 OS baseline installation, kernel tuning, and hardware validation on all compute/storage nodes

· Work with Ceph engineer to integrate Ceph RBD backend with Cinder for volume management

· Validate Ceph health, OSD quorum, and replication policies post-deployment

· Troubleshoot OpenStack-to-Ceph integration issues (RBD pool design, performance, failover)

Testing, Troubleshooting & Documentation

· Develop and execute integration tests: end-to-end VM provisioning, networking flows, storage attachment

· Troubleshoot service failures, API errors, and cluster issues using logs, metrics, and debugging tools

· Work with QA to identify and resolve defects during SIT (System Integration Testing)

· Document service configurations, topology diagrams, and operational procedures

· Participate in design reviews and architecture discussions with lead architect

Collaboration & Knowledge Transfer

· Coordinate with network engineer on OVN underlay configuration and VXLAN/EVPN fabric integration

· Liaise with Ceph engineer on storage pool design, capacity planning, and performance optimization

· Support ops team training during Phase 4 UAT (User Acceptance Testing)

· Prepare technical documentation and runbooks for post-go-live operations

· Provide daily status updates and escalate risks/blockers to lead architect

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCEOpenStack Expertise (REQUIRED)

· Minimum 4+ years hands-on experience deploying and managing OpenStack (any version: Stein, Train, Ussuri, Wallaby, Xena, Yoga, or later)

· Deep expertise in OpenStack core services: Nova, Neutron, Cinder, Keystone, Glance, Placement

· Proven experience with Neutron networking, OVN, security groups, floating IPs, and tenant isolation

· Experience with Cinder block storage, Ceph RBD backend, and volume management

· Hands-on experience deploying and configuring HAProxy, Keepalived for API VIPs

· Understanding of OpenStack multi-tenancy, RBAC (role-based access control), and quota management

· Familiarity with OpenStack director (RHOSP director) or TripleO for deployment orchestration

Linux & Storage (REQUIRED)

· Expert-level Linux administration (RHEL/CentOS 7/8/9 or equivalent)

· Advanced networking knowledge: TCP/IP, VXLAN, VLAN, routing, firewall rules, DNS/NTP

· Experience with storage technologies: block storage, iSCSI, NFS, or object storage

· Bash/Python scripting for automation and troubleshooting

· Comfortable with command-line tools: virsh, openstack CLI, ceph CLI, systemctl, journalctl

Ceph Storage (REQUIRED)

· Hands-on experience with Ceph cluster deployment, management, and troubleshooting

· Understanding of Ceph architecture: MON, MGR, OSD, MDS roles and quorum

· Experience with Ceph RBD (Reliable Block Device) for persistent storage

· Familiarity with CRUSH maps, placement groups, and replication strategies

· Ability to monitor Ceph health, identify OSD issues, and perform recovery procedures

Database & HA (REQUIRED)

· Experience with MySQL/MariaDB Galera clustering for HA (high availability)

· Understanding of multi-master replication, quorum, and failover mechanisms

· RabbitMQ message queue experience; knowledge of mirrored queues and HA configuration

Monitoring & Troubleshooting (REQUIRED)

· Experience with Prometheus and Grafana for metrics collection and visualization

· Ability to troubleshoot distributed systems using logs, metrics, and debugging tools

· Familiarity with systemd, journalctl, and service management

· Understanding of API debugging, HTTP/REST concepts, and JSON

Red Hat Certification (PREFERRED)

Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) — highly preferred

Red Hat OpenStack Certification (RHCO) or equivalent OpenStack certification — preferred
