Lead - Mobile development

Role Overview

You will be responsible for architecting, designing, developing, and supporting native mobile applications, SDKs, and design systems/component libraries in the vehicle IoT space at Toyota Connected. Your role will involve working in a highly-energized, fast-paced, and innovative startup-like environment. You will be the go-to resource for modern, native iOS and Android development in Swift/Kotlin, leading and mentoring a technical team while also being hands-on in delivering significant functionality every Sprint. Creatively solving technical issues and collaborating with cross-platform team members will be key aspects of your role.

Key Responsibilities

• Designing and developing software to create cutting-edge solutions
• Working closely with product owners to shape and deliver features to customers
• Translating user stories and business requirements into technical solutions by building quick prototypes or proof of concepts
• Converting proof of concepts into production-grade solutions that can scale for millions of users
• Leading, nurturing, and mentoring a technical team of iOS & Android developers
• Leading from the front in following best practices in app development, tooling, security, and testing
• Operating in a highly-iterative Agile (Scrum) development environment
• Collaborating in a diverse environment
• Owning delivery of features from concept to code to production
• Developing tools and libraries to enable rapid and scalable development in the future

Qualifications Required

• Strong experience in developing Android applications and exposure in IOS deployment in production
• Minimum 8 years of experience in Software Engineering with at least 4 years of experience in building mobile apps
• Strong experience in building and maintaining iOS frameworks using CocoaPods or maintaining Android libraries via Gradle/Maven/Bintray
• Strong to moderate experience with functional/reactive programming patterns, using RxJava and/or RxSwift
• Strong experience collaborating with designers and UX experts to create great user experiences
• Experience with Sketch/Zeplin is a plus
• Strong hands-on coding experience in Swift and/or Kotlin
• Experience integrating with and/or building standard RESTful web services
• Experience with GraphQL is a plus
• Experience releasing or working as part of a team to release apps in the iOS App Store and/or Google Play Store
• Experience mentoring junior developers and managing a team of developers
• Experience developing for backends in public cloud environments
• Confidence in expressing your point of view from a position of knowledge and experience, openness to feedback and revising plans when necessary
