Full-Stack Developer – Medical Software (Node.Js, Python & FastAPI)

About Us

EMTensor is a medical technology company developing a new generation of brain imaging. Our electromagnetic tomography system uses safe, low-power electromagnetic fields to image the brain non-invasively, with the goal of supporting fast diagnosis of stroke and traumatic brain injury, conditions where every minute counts.

Behind the technology are decades of research and a growing international patent portfolio. We run two labs, one in Vienna, Austria, and one in Bangalore, India, where a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists works together with specialised development partners to turn this technology into a certified Class IIb medical device. Joining us now means helping to bring a genuinely new imaging modality from the lab to the clinic.

Your Role

You will develop the software that clinicians and operators use to work with our device. Your main focus will be building a clear, intuitive user interface, while also contributing to backend services and supporting our cloud and deployment infrastructure.

This is a multi-skill role for a developer who is comfortable owning features end to end in a regulated environment.

Responsibilities

Frontend / UI (Main Focus)

• Design and build a clean, intuitive, easy-to-use web UI based on Node.js
• Translate clinical and operator workflows into user-friendly interfaces
• Improve usability together with the team, based on feedback and testing

Backend

• Develop and maintain backend services and REST APIs in Python and FastAPI
• Implement CRUD operations, data models and integrations with other system components
• Write clean, tested and maintainable code

Cloud and DevOps

• Support Azure cloud administration and environment management
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, deployments and release processes

Medical Software Practices

• Follow compliance-oriented development practices for medical software: documentation, code reviews, traceability and structured testing
• Contribute to software documentation in line with IEC 62304 requirements

Team

• Take ownership of features from requirements to release
• Actively contribute ideas, raise risks and blockers early, and take part in technical discussions

Requirements

• 2–3 years of professional software development experience
• Solid experience with Node.js and modern frontend development
• Hands-on experience with Python and FastAPI (or a comparable Python web framework)
• Experience designing REST APIs and working with databases
• A good eye for UI/UX and usability
• Experience with Git and code review workflows
• A proactive, self-driven way of working
• Fluent English

Nice to Have

• Experience with Azure cloud services
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
• Experience in medical, healthcare or other regulated software development
• Familiarity with IEC 62304 or ISO 13485
• Experience with data visualisation or imaging-related interfaces
• A GitHub profile or portfolio showing your work
