Entry-Level Technical Report Writer – Environmental Remediation

Job Summary: We are seeking a detail-oriented, highly organized Junior Technical Report Writer to join our environmental consulting team. This entry-level role is ideal for a recent graduate in environmental science, geology, engineering, or technical writing who possesses strong written communication skills and a sharp eye for detail. You will collaborate with project managers and field teams to turn field data, soil/groundwater sampling results, and regulatory guidelines into clear, accurate technical reports.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drafting Remediation Reports: Learn and assist in drafting technical deliverables across various project stages, including:
  • Site Investigation (SI) Reports: Summarizing site histories, field activities, and soil/groundwater sampling findings.
  • UST Closure Reports: Documenting underground storage tank removals, post-excavation soil sampling, and waste disposal.
  • Remedial Investigation (RI) Reports: Assisting with contaminant delineation narratives, groundwater flow summaries, and data tabulations.
  • Remedial Action (RA) Deliverables: Compiling cleanup documentation, post-remediation monitoring data, and regulatory compliance filings.
  • Data Organization & Formatting: Convert raw laboratory data (EDDs), field logs, boring logs, and well construction details into standardized tables, charts, and appendices.
  • Proofreading & QA/QC: Review report drafts for grammatical accuracy, proper formatting, mathematical consistency, and alignment with figure callouts and maps.
  • Project Support: Coordinate with GIS/CAD staff and project managers to gather necessary report attachments, figures, and historical documents.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Environmental Engineering, Technical Writing, English, or a related field.
  • Writing Proficiency: Exceptional written English skills, including strong technical grammar, structural organization, and precise vocabulary. (A writing sample may be requested)
  • Technical Aptitude: Ability to read, interpret, and organize quantitative data (e.g., scientific units, concentration tables, laboratory results).
  • Software Skills: High proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel (formatting tables, styling headers, managing references) and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Detail-Oriented: High level of accuracy when proofreading numbers, dates, sample IDs, and regulatory standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic exposure to environmental field sampling protocols (soil, groundwater, or vapor intrusion) through internships or coursework.
  • Familiarity with reading basic environmental maps, geological cross-sections, or boring logs.
  • Prior coursework or certification in technical or scientific writing.
