The Role

We’re looking for a Backend Engineer to help build DecisionX’s data backbone and AI-powered decision engine from the ground up.

This is a high-ownership role. You’ll design and build systems that ingest and reason over massive datasets, orchestrate multi-agent workflows, and deliver sub-second insights to real enterprise users.

You won’t just implement features-you’ll shape architecture, make core technical decisions, and own outcomes end-to-end.

What You’ll Build

Data Infrastructure

• High-throughput ETL/ELT pipelines ingesting millions of records daily from ERPs, APIs, warehouses, and files
• Data models for time-series, hierarchical dimensions, and large-scale aggregations
• OLAP query layers delivering sub-second performance on complex analytics
• Real-time streaming systems with exactly-once semantics
• Thoughtful tradeoffs: when to denormalize, pre-aggregate, cache, or compute on demand

Tech: ClickHouse, Druid, Snowflake, BigQuery, Kafka, Airflow

AI Agent Systems

• Multi-step agentic workflows: goal decomposition, task coordination, learning loops
• Stateful execution engines that maintain decision context across sessions
• Reasoning systems where agents autonomously query data, simulate outcomes, and update plans
• Production-grade prompt engineering, context management, and streaming responses
• Robust failure handling: retries, fallbacks, and human-in-the-loop workflows

Tech: Python / Go, OpenAI & Anthropic APIs, vector databases, graph databases, LangChain

Backend & APIs

• Microservices with clean boundaries, fault isolation, and graceful degradation
• Scalable REST / GraphQL APIs built for enterprise workloads
• Async processing and distributed job orchestration
• Systems designed to fail safely-and recover automatically

Tech: Python / Java / Go, Kubernetes, RabbitMQ

Numerical Analytics at Scale

• Processing large datasets: sales, financials, and operational KPIs
• Aggregation engines for dashboards, anomaly detection, and root-cause analysis
• Query optimization: indexing strategies, materialized views, pre-aggregation, caching
• Numerical correctness and consistency in distributed systems

Infrastructure

• Production deployments on AWS, GCP, or Azure
• Dockerized services, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code

Frontend (Nice to Have)

• Real-time React dashboards that stay fast at scale
• Data visualizations that drive decisions-not just look good
• Intuitive query interfaces for non-technical users

What We’re Looking For

Core Experience

• Built and operated production data systems processing millions of records
• Shipped backend systems or platforms used by real customers
• Hands-on experience with distributed systems in production
• Comfort debugging failures in live systems-and fixing them

Bonus Points

• Built BI platforms, analytics engines, or internal data products
• Experience with B2B SaaS, especially enterprise data or AI products
• Startup or founding-team experience
• Shipped LLM-powered features or agentic systems to production
