Role: API Gateway Engineer

Years of Experience: 2-5 Years

Location: Chennai

Key Responsibilities

API Gateway Design & Management

• Design, configure, and maintain API gateway solutions (Apigee, APIM, Kong).
• Develop API proxies, policies, routing rules, transformations, and custom plugins.
• Implement throttling, caching, load balancing, and traffic management features.

Security & Compliance

• Enforce API security using OAuth2, JWT, API keys, and other authentication methods.
• Ensure compliance with company security standards and industry regulations.
• Manage access control, rate limiting, IP filtering, and threat protection.

API Development & Integration

• Work closely with backend and frontend teams to onboard new APIs.
• Create and maintain API documentation, versioning, lifecycle policies, and developer onboarding flows.
• Support microservices integration and service discovery.

Monitoring & Performance Optimization

• Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting using tools such as Cloud Watch, Grafana, Splunk, ELK, or Prometheus.
• Optimize API performance, latency, and error handling.
• Troubleshoot production issues and ensure high availability.

Automation & CI/CD

• Automate API deployments using CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, etc.).
• Contribute to infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Cloud Formation) for gateway configurations.
• Develop reusable templates and API on-boarding frameworks.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 2–5+ years of experience working with API gateways or API management platforms.
• Strong understanding of REST, Graph QL, and Micro services architecture.
• Hands-on experience with API security standards (OAuth2, Open-ID Connect, JWT).
• Proficiency with scripting languages (Python, Bash, Node.js, Power shell).
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
