Job Description: 

We are seeking a Senior Database Administrator with extensive experience in managing large-scale databases, primarily Oracle 19c and PostgreSQL, and exposure to NoSQL databases such as Cassandra and Elasticsearch. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in maintaining, optimizing, and ensuring the high availability of database systems. This position requires working in a 24/7 rotational shift and the ability to handle shifts independently. 

The Senior Database Administrator will work closely with developers, ensuring smooth database operations, optimizing queries, and supporting critical database-related requirements. 


Key Responsibilities: 

Database Management: 

  • Administer, monitor, and maintain large Oracle 19c and PostgreSQL databases. 
  • Manage database configurations, installations, and upgrades, including Oracle 19c patching and upgrades. 
  • Ensure optimal performance and scalability of databases through regular performance tuning and troubleshooting. 

NoSQL Exposure: 

  • Work with NoSQL technologies like Cassandra and Elasticsearch, ensuring smooth operations and efficient data storage/retrieval. 

Performance Tuning and Optimization: 

  • Perform regular database health checks and proactive tuning. 
  • Optimize SQL queries, indexes, and database design for performance improvements. 

Backup, Recovery, and High Availability: 

  • Implement and manage database backup strategies and disaster recovery solutions. 
  • Ensure high availability of databases in production environments. 

Collaboration with Developers: 

  • Collaborate with development teams to provide database support for new application features, schema changes, and query optimizations. 

Shift Management: 

  • Work in a 24/7 rotation schedule, handling shifts as an individual contributor. 
  • Proactively resolve any database issues during assigned shifts, ensuring minimal downtime. 

Security and Compliance: 

  • Implement database security best practices, ensuring data integrity and compliance with industry standards. 


Skills & Qualifications: 

Experience: 

  • 3-8 years of hands-on experience managing large databases, primarily Oracle 19c and PostgreSQL. 
  • Strong knowledge of Oracle 19c database patching, upgrades, and performance tuning. 
  • Experience with NoSQL databases such as Cassandra and Elasticsearch is highly desirable. 

Technical Skills: 

  • Expertise in SQL, PL/SQL, and query optimization. 
  • Experience in database backup, recovery, and high-availability solutions. 
  • Familiarity with database monitoring tools and automated scripts. 

Problem Solving: 

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex database issues independently. 

Communication: 

  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, especially developers. 

Other: 

  • Comfortable with 24/7 rotational shifts. 
  • Ability to manage tasks independently and take ownership of database operations during shifts. 


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience with Oracle RAC, Data Guard, and advanced replication technologies. 
  • Familiarity with database monitoring tools like OEM, pgAdmin, or similar. 
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and cloud-based databases.
